First of all, I know exactly how difficult it is to sing in a foreign language. Thanks to my own experience, I understand the challenges you face and can help you perfect your pronunciation in relation to the musical phrasing.
Currently, I work at the University of West London as a vocal coach for Italian classes, and as an accompanist and repetiteur for the Opera and Musical Theatre department. Over the years, I have worked as a repetiteur, accompanist, vocal coach, and maestro concertante for numerous operas.
My journey working with singers actually began when I was just 11 years old. My teachers noticed my strong sight-reading skills, and one day they placed the score of Rigoletto in front of me—specifically Sparafucile’s aria, “Quel vecchio maledivami”—and asked me to play it. I consider that exact moment the very first step in my career. Since then, my operatic repertoire has grown to include Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, La bohème, Tosca, La traviata, Rigoletto, Aida and many other operas...
After moving to London in 2013, I also began coaching musical theatre singers—and I absolutely love it. Someone once told me that perhaps “there is only one difference between an opera singer and a musical theatre singer: the second one uses a microphone.”
Notably, my recent musical theatre productions include Ordinary Days, Just So, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
